My name is Kayla and I am an Illustrator based in the Chicago Metropolitan Area.

I believe that any type of narrative, visual or literary, can act as a doorway. On one side of the threshold, we experience the hustle and bustle of daily routine. But once we step through to the other side, there are an unlimited number of possibilities to encounter, breath-taking scenery to see, and fantastic circumstances to experience.

 

As such, I always strive to preserve an element of story telling in my work, as I find taking a step back and exercising the imagination to be a refreshing antidote to the rush of day-to-day reality. I draw inspiration from personal experiences- such as phobias or emotions- and shape them into believable, yet curious and visual narratives.

 

I look to acknowledge and exaggerate the fantastic whimsy of realism by creating a dialog with my audience and openly inviting the viewer to weave their own tale to accompany the illustrations before them.
